Valencia Rose

The valencia rose is a great-looking orange hybrid tea that can add a lot of vibrant color and scent to your home and garden. Its a little difficult to handle for a novice though!

Valencia Rose

Origin

This is a Kordes breed originally, although I don't have the specific year nor a lot of information about the name. I'm guessing its named after Valencia oranges due to its color. However, it available in many nurseries and stores so its not too hard to find.

Beauty

I really love the light orange blooms on these! They remind me of orange sherbet. They will good sized and go continously until late fall in some cases. It also has a beautiful fragrance as well. I've heard reports of gardeners training them to climb, but their really more suited as a shrub or bush. With their fragrance and large blooms, they make great cut flowers. They can get up to about 5 ft. tall at the max but are normally about 3 ft. tall. They are quite useful as borders at that height. They would be sure to attract a lot of outside attention there! They also do find in large or small beds.

Gardening

This is definitely not a great breed for a beginner. They are very susceptible to diseases and insect infestations, even with good maintenance. Maybe the orange and the fragrance does it! It is rated from zone 4 up to 9 so its potentially a decent choice for a colder climate in North America. It does best with full sun and moderate watering.
