Ultimate Roses

Ultimate roses are the monsters in the cut flower world. If you're like me, you probably think that most cut roses are a certain size. Not anymore. Just like SUVs, big gulps, and anything else, we now have super-sized flowers. I'm talking up to six feet high!

Origin

They are specially bred in Ecuador. The special soil there makes for perfect conditions for rose growing. The thing is, many flowers are grown in Ecuador but they don't get to be as tall as the ultimates. They are also bred to have huge bright heads as well. I'd love to find out what they're actually putting in the dirt!

Types

These beasts come in 3, 4, and up to 6 foot lengths. That is huge! You can also get these as single stems and in a dozen. The types offered are red and a princess breed, which is a combination of yellow, pink, and white but are definitely a great look!

Where to get them

So far, I've only been able to find them at FTD.com and ultimaterose.com. Ultimaterose.com has the cheaper price, but does not ship with a vase. It can be bought separately though. They do come in a nice, classy black box so its still in good taste. They also come with a special clipper as these things have monster stems and may need a little cleanup before you set them out. There's also a special rose additive which can prolong the freshness, sometimes up to two weeks.
