Tropicana Rose

The tropicana rose is a beautiful, exotic red-orange hybrid tea rose. Find out more about this award-winning breed!

Tropicana Rose

The Tropicana was first a German breed and was launched back in 1960. That year, it won the ARS gold medal. Its exotic look with its fiery red-orange blooms has made it very popular. In fact, of all roses it is the 3rd best selling. Even Martha Stewart claims to have tended this breed when she was growing up. So you know its a big deal!

It is popular for cut flowers, as it has long stems and nice pointed blooms, easy for cutting. Add to that the fact that it has an excellent fragance, and you see why its a cut rose favorite. Note that you may also seen it called the Super Star as well.

The Tropicana can thrive from zones 5-9. Full sun is best, but it can grow in partial shade. Its bushes will reach up to four feet. Blooms will occur continuously from mid-summer to fall.

Blue or white flowers or perennials look great with this. Delphiniums or geraniums are nice complementary plants for the Tropicana rose.
