Thornless RosesThornless roses are a great way to get started in the garden. They are much easier to handle and take some of the pain out of working. They are also great for kids. After all, wouldn't it be nice to be able to do some gardening without those thick leather gloves! Thornless roses are also good for areas where you have a lot of foot traffic and visitors and pets. You'd like to avoid your neighbor grazing up against a prickly bush accidentally! Technically, the thorns are actually called prickles, but you probably really only need to know that if you are talking to a horticulturist. Keep in mind that some retailers may define this type differently. It can mean no thorns on the stem only, or totally bare. Check before buying if you are not sure. In addition, you can always use a rose stripper to remove thorns and leaves if you are using the flowers for arrangments. Some good choices for these great flowers include: Zephirine Drouhin rose - A great Climbing rose! Great for arbors or entranceways! Golden Showers rose - Another great climbing rose! Has a great yellow color and is great for pergolas and arbors! Cecile Brunner - A beautiful pink climbing rose! Although some varieties may not be entirely bare, it may have some prickles near the leaves.
