Snow RoseThe snow rose is actually a bonsai plant from Asia, but has many interesting properties and can look great! Find out more about this exotic bonsai plant!
The snow rose can be found under many different names. Its technical name is Serissa foetida but can also be called White rose and the Tree of a Thousand Stars. Foetida actually is Latin for nasty smelling (fetid!) and that's what happens when this plant's roots are churned up. Definitely watch out for that! It was originally found in Southern China, but has grown in popularity in other parts of the world. These exotic plants have a very nice look and can bloom regularly if in the right tropical or sub tropical climate. The blooms tend to have a starlike appearance and can be numerous, hence the Tree of a Thousand Stars name. It has been known to bloom in the late spring and summer but in the right climate and watering conditions it can bloom most of the year. Gardeners in the US have had success with it in Texas and Florida, and even up to North Carolina. It can be very finicky in colder climates so if you're trying it up north its best as a potted plant. With proper gardening your serissa can be trimmed to be a bonsai plant. It does best in light shade but direct sunlight can be OK on occasion. Kept the plant soil moist and it can thrive. Weekly fertilizer is OK in the summer and spring.
