Mascotte Red Rose

Mascotte Red Rose...This rose could have easily been put under the Pink Roses section. However, the one pictured is more red than pink, and the actual bush itself looks more red to my eye.

Pictures Of Pink Roses

The shades of pink vary from the aptly named Brilliant Pink Iceberg through to the subtlety of Nancy Steen.

Brilliant Pink Iceberg, a pink rose

This is a sport of Proberg, and bears no resembelance to the original Iceberg at all.

Nancy-Steen, a pink rose

I just can't find a bad word to say about this rose. Lovely subtle hues of coral to salmon pink, fading to white, disease resistance, and a lovely perfume.

Pink-Parfait, a lovely pink rose

One of the strong points of Pink Parfait is its resistance to disease. Just plant it, and wait for beautiful blooms, how easy is that?!

The Blue Sky rose has a good strong fragrance, and unusual coloring - not quite blue as the name suggests but more mauve.

Betty-Boop, pink rose

I can't say that the name Betty Boop does a lot for me. But there is no denying the flower...stunning. And would you believe that the 2 pictures on this page are from the same bush?

Rose Types

The rose has been around in one form or another for millions of years (about 70 in fact). Most of the varieties that we see in our gardens today, developed from wild roses that were brought over from the middle east - the china rose is in fact still with us today.

Wild Roses

Wild roses are perhaps a little plain to look at, compared to their modern cousins. Generally smaller single flowers in various shades of pink, they have one outstanding feature. The attractive red hips produced in the fall.

Old Roses

The early or old rose history can be divided into two distinct groups. The Oriental roses which includes the Tea rose and the China rose, and the European roses - damasks, alba, gallicas etc.

Old fashioned Roses

1820 was about the time that crosses between European and Oriental roses began. This was the beginning of a whole new era in roses - my favorite!

Modern Roses - Hybrid Teas and Floribundas

There are two main types of modern rose - the Hybrid Teas, and the Floribunda. While there are others, these two make up the bulk of what is seen in gardens today.

Pictures Of White Roses

White roses, the symbol of purity. Pictures of white roses, including iceberg, scentasia, and Sally Holmes.

Iceberg, probably the best known white rose on the planet

Surely the best known white rose, a large specimen of Iceberg is a georgeous sight!

Sally-Holmes, single white hybrid musk rose

Scentasia,a lovely white floribunda rose

The official version of this rose gives the color as light yellow to white. However, every specimen that I have seen has been white, with a yellow center, as seen in the accompanying photo.

Kent, single white rose

The Kent white rose. One thing I like about this rose is the tendency to discolor the petals to a lovely pale pink. This is quite noticeable on the accompanying picture.

Margaret-Merril, a white floribunda rose

From what I have seen, this rose is prone to many diseases and pests, so bear that in mind before planting one.

Pictures Of Yellow Roses

All rose colors carry a significance, and the yellow rose is no exception. To give someone yellow roses signifies....

Friesia, a beautiful yellow rose

This is certainly one of the more flamboyant of the yellow roses. Thick leathery petals, a delightful perfume, and nice dark green foliage - this one has it all!

Lawrence-Johnston, a single yellow rose

Lawrence Johnston, a lovely single yellow rose.

The Pilgrim, yellow rose

David Austin did the rose world a great service, with his introduction of the English Rose varieties. The Pilgrim is one of his best, in my opinion.

Timaru Rose Garden

Timaru, in the south island of New Zealand is lucky enough to have possibly the largest collection of old roses in the southern hemisphere.

Rose Pictures

The rose pictures on this page are ones that dont fit in the other color catagories. Orange roses, multi-colored roses, and a few other unusual colors

Doris Tysterman, A Beautiful Orange Rose

Doris Tysterman, a hybrid tea - descendant of Peer Gynt. A lovely orange rose.

Horburns Rose

I have been able to find out very little about this Rose. Im not sure why, but there appears to be very little documentation on Horburns, so if anyone can provide details about it?

Hot Chocolate Rose

There are 3 roses that go by the name

Taihape Sunset Rose

Tequila Sunrise Rose

Tequila sunrise is an award winning rose, and it's not hard to see why. I love roses that change color on the petals, the way this does. Not a great deal of fragrance, however. These roses look spectacular when mass planted.

Growing Roses

Growing roses doesn't need to be difficult. Roses from cuttings, budding roses, or pollination, it's up to you.

Rose Cuttings

Taking rose cuttings needn't be difficult. With a few simple steps you can easily have a good success rate.
