There are many different designs available and they are made with many different materials. Wood is nice as it can be painted to match your decor and can be a nice DIY project but it is a little more maintenance. Aluminum or metal is a little more fixed in color but far less maintenance. You can place them in many spots on your garden. You can use them along a walkway or as a privacy screen for a deck or patio. You can also attach it to a wall. Be sure to leave at least three inches between the wall and the trellis to give the roses room to grow and improve air circulation. The pictures show a Constance Spry which is a great trellis climber. Here are some favorite breeds to include on a trellis:
A common problem is to have flowers only at the top, similar to issues that you might see on a rose arbor. Usually the issue is that your canes have been trained to go too vertically. You should try to train them to get as horizontal as possible, or at least around a 45 degree angle. This will force the flowers to bud in an even pattern instead of just at the top of the canes. For an older plant that may not have as much flexibility, take the canes and bend them as best you can without harming the cane. Wait about a month, and then retrain them to an angle that will work.
