Rose ArchA rose arch is very similar to an arbor, but usually is a little bit simpler to construct. It can be an easy way to frame an entrance way in your garden, or to put a place for your climbers.
You can certainly buy one of these from any number of retailers. They can also be build quite easily from most types of wood. Most store bought units will run you from $50-$200. Just be sure to get a good quality material as you certainly don't want to have to replace your arch just as your roses get going! Aluminum or treated wood should be fine in most cases. You can also buy a kit with the correct wood pieces and assemble it yourself. In most cases it should be no more than a one day job. Here's an interesting video on building one made out of hazel wood from scratch. I suppose different wood could be used as long as its pliable enough to make the curved sections. Oak might be a little difficult though! When looking for breeds to work over your structure, consider the following. Most climbers will work, but it helps to keep them disease resistant and easy pruning as the ones on top will be tough to reach:
Again, as with an arbor, you will probably want to use a couple of different breeds on the top and sides. A shrub can be planted near the botton to fill out things. Remember to keep your arch wooden bottoms off the ground so as to prevent moisture from affecting it. Ideally you'd have a solid concrete base from which to work with.
