Julia Child RoseThe Julia Child rose, personally picked out by the great chef herself! I'm not quite sure what it has to do with cooking but it looks pretty nice in a garden.
Some history…. In 2006, Julia Child was invited to select a rose that would bear her name. After careful consideration, she went with this fragrant yellow floribunda. It was created by Tom Carruth and is now being produced by the Weeks Roses company. It ended up being a good choice, it won the All-America Roses Selection award that same year. Its easy to see how the light gold petals and scent would be a good fit for the bubbly Julia. Its a combination of Voodoo, Summerwine, and Top Notch varieties. Beauty The Julia Child rose has some nice looking characteristics. It has a great gold color which will change shades somewhat over a season, fading out somewhat toward the colder fall portions. Not surprisingly, it can look great in a container or floral border near the kitchen, where the light colors can help lighten a kitchen. It also makes for a great talking point there. In your garden, this floribunda bush can get up to 4 feet tall and looks great as a patio border as well. The yellow blooms look nice next to a pink bloomer, such as an Angel Face.
Besides its good looks and scent, the other main points with this rose is its low maintenance. It is rated down to Zone 4. Although it does best in full sun, it can still thrive in partial sun as well. Pruning can be kept to a minimum, and should only really need to be done in the early spring. Most growers have commented on how disease-resistant it is, but you should still take preventative measures against blackspot. No fungicides should be necessary in most cases though. This is a good rose for beginners.
