Into the history books….

There's definitely some interesting, and maybe conflicting history behind this plant. Some sources point to its introduction in 1842 by a Frenchman, Jean Desprez. Others say it was a damask first bred by Robert and Moreau. All of these origin confusion led to confusion with the name as well. You may see it as the Marchesa Boccella, and in fact, this is the required exhibition name. However, Marquise Boccella was an original name, along with Jacques Cartier. Confused yet?!

Beauty

Its a top-selling antique rose and with good reason. It has large, numerous pink blooms which go continously through the season. It tends to bloom in the late spring or summer time period. It has a very nice strong scent, as is the case with all damasks.

It looks nice with blue flowers mixed in, such as geraniums. It can grow up to 5 feet but it tends to stay around 3 feet or so. It can be a potted or containter rose as well.

Gardening

This plant is rated for zone 4b and warmer. Many people have commented how well it does even in shaded areas. Its also very disease resistant, making it ideal for urban areas where you still want that nice rose fragrance.
