Fragrant Cloud RoseThe Fragrant cloud rose is, well, fragrant! Its also a gardener’s favorite and has a very rich color that looks great in your yard.
It was first introduced by Tantau in 1963. It won the Gamble medal as the best scented rose. You may also see it as the Nuage Parfume or also the Duftwolke. Its known as one of the most scented hybrid teas out there. Of course, the main attraction with this rose is the beautiful fragrance. This is a strong fragrance though, maybe too overpowering for some people. If you have some other scents it might end up drowning those out, its that strong! The color is a another outstanding part of this flower. Some people call it an orange, other call it more of a coral. I’ve even heard of a hot pink with orange accents! I think it depends on the zone and climate you are in. Cooler, wetter climates such as the Pacific Northwest seem to create reddish blooms, while hotter areas tend to be more hot pink or orange. It definitely looks good with some nice blue accented accompanying flowers. Its also and excellent repeater, nearly continuously from spring to fall. bviously, with its big blooms, great scent, and nice long hybrid tea stems, its perfect for cut flowers. From a gardening perspective, its fairly disease resistant, with few reports of mildew or blackspot. It is rated from zones 6 to 9, but many Canadian gardeners in Ontario and elsewhere have reported success with it. Even some folks up in zone 4 have been able to get it to last through the winter. It can get quite tall if left in good sun, up to six feet at times. It’s a pretty standard hybrid tea shrub, but it can be trained and cut into a tree with a little bit of work.
