Fire and Ice Rose - Spectacular Climbers

The Fire and Ice Rose is an elegant grandiflora. It's so named because of the combination white and red blended colors. It is a wonderful cut flower, making them a florist favorite, although it has a minimal fragrance.

Into the history books….

This was first bred by Jack E. Christensen and Carruth in United States in the year 1987 and was introduced by Armstrong roses in United States as Fire ‘n’ Ice Rose. It was the gold award winner at Australian Rose Trail Garden. It was created by the hybridizing of Bluhwunder and Love. Bluhwunder is afloribunda rose bred by Kordes in 1970 and Love is a hybrid by Warriner in 1980. The rose was especially bred with the purpose of fresh cut flower trading and for florist business. The name fire and ice symbolizes heat and frost which expresses the deep passionate love filled with innocence. Fire and Ice rose is also known as AROfiric.

Fire and Ice is a bicolor rose with soft tones of white on the inner side of the petals and bright red cherry color caressing the tip of the petals. This rose is an exuberant beauty that can add a romantic charm to any centerpieces and bouquets meant for special occasions. The blooms of the flower are medium to large in size with around 35 to 40 petals in each bloom. The bloom of the rose is high centered and fully double. It bears light fragrance which adds to the grace of the rose. It is a long stemmed flower with exotic looks therefore best serves the purpose as a fresh cut rose and is widely used by the florist world over. The blooms appear singly on each stem and are repeated throughout the season. The blooms reappear in both the cases whether you cut the flower or leave it on the stem. The growth of this rose is bushy and upright.

The foliage of a fire and ice rose is medium green in color. They appear shiny and are medium in size. The foliage and rose together makes a beautiful combination to adorn any flower decoration. The plant grows tall at about 4 to 5 feet in height and spreads out in width up to 3 feet. The flower has good vase life and lasts long after cutting them. Mostly the florist roses are not much resistant to diseases but Fire and Ice rose has good resistance towards it. The rose is delicate towards winter hardiness and does well only in the USDA zone 6 and warmer. They will need protection from cold in the case of bad weather conditions.

Gardening

Most pruning will involve removing the dead and diseased canes so that the new blooms can flourish on new canes. In the summer season it can be cut back a little to promote further growth. The Fire and Ice rose requires full sun for minimum of 5-6 hours per day. This will speed up the bloom production. The rose will require well drained rich soil and deep watering for 3-5 times per week
