Fairy Rose Bush

Into the history books….

In the early 1900s, the polyantha's popularity was growing rapidly. It was first bred in 1932 in England. It continued to be popular through the century and later on there were new breeds created. The darker pink Lovely Fairy type was added in 1990.The red breed Fairy Queen was created in 1998. The last major new breed was the white Crystal Fairy, added in 2001.

Beauty

Fairy rose bushes are known for their beautiful pink blooms that repeat continuously through the season, usually from April to December. Its a smaller bush so it works well on the lot where a low border is necessary. However, to me, its fragrance is fairly weak, although where this bush would be located I don't think its a big issue.

Gardening

A popular selling poing on this plant is its resiliance. I don't want to say that you should neglect your roses, but these tend to flourish even under minimal supervision! It will keep its small size with regular pruning. Also it is very disease resistant and is good from zones 4-9. It is also somewhat shade tolerant as well, while being blackspot, rust, and mildew resistant.

One thing to note with this plant. It has thorns. Lots of them. So consider that as well when you decide to plant one. Although, its nothing good gloves can't handle!
