Elle Rose 02

Some history….

Bred by the french company Meilland in 1999, it slowly gained notoriety over the next few years with its fragrance and color. It was awarded the AARS prize that same year. Its considered one of the Romantica types.

The beauty….

It has a very unique color for sure. Its been called everything from orange to pink..to orange-pink. It may be because of some of the yellow on the flower interior mixing with the pink. It can almost look like a salmon color in some cases. I'm sticking with orange-pink on this!

The scent is also noteworthy. Some people compare it to the old china roses that way, with a sweet and spicy flavor.

Elle Rose

Its a repeat bloomer starting in late May or June in most places. You'll get the traditional hybrid tea look on the blooms, usually just the one per stem. The foliage is a light green and contrasts nicely with the pinks and yellows.

Its great as a border or walkway rose. Its fairly compact so it shouldn't get in the way. It also works well in a container setting. It shouldn't get above 36 inches or so in most cases.

Gardening….

As a hybrid tea, its definitely tough against disease as well as mildew and rust. Its only rated for zones 7-10, so if you live in a cooler area, its not exactly the most hardy choice there. Many gardeners in the Northern US have reported that is tougher to bloom there.
