Cecile Brunner, pink polyantha rose

Cecile Brunner Rose

Cecile Brunner Rose

This pale pink Cecile Brunner rose grew prolifically in my Far North Queensland (Australia) garden. I loved it for that. Usually I prefer scented roses (this one is not scented) but it was hard not to love this rose for its perfect buds and showy sprays.

Love your site, by the way ...

***Editors Note: Cecile Brunner (also known as Madam Cecile Brunner, and the "sweetheart rose")is a small pink polyantha rose, bred in 1880.

There is a climbing sport, know as (strangely enough) Climbing Cecile Brunner. You will sometime hear this referred to as the "buttonhole rose". This has a mass of small delicate pink blooms, as you can see in the photograph on this page.

The lack of scent is a shame, in my opinion, but I would never let that stop me from growing it. I have a lovely specimen here at my home, and it's one of the first roses to bloom each year (the Banksia is always first to flower).

Thank you for contributing. AJ***
