Lenten Rose

The Lenten rose is actually a perennial. However, it has many interesting properties and its a great flower for the winter/early spring period. Read on to find out more!

Lenten rose

The Lenten rose is a popular plant for many reasons. Its often one of the first plants to flower in the spring, hence its name. The flowers can last for several months and can appear in a variety of colors. You can ask when ordering, although solid white or red colors can often be a premium. It is an evergreen member of the buttercup group.

They are rated for planting in zones from 4 to 9, but can survive with snow cover in zone 3. Important note: it takes 3-4 years for a plant to flower bloom, so keep this in mind.

Lenten rose

They are good plants for beginners. They don't require direct sunlight, and do well in shady or partial sunny spots in your garden. After receiving, rinse the plant and place in the soil. Moisten the plant, but don't overwater. Its best to keep about 2 feet space between plants. Care usually consists of trimming off the old leaves. They are great for ground cover, especially when overshadowed by other plants.

These plants are toxic and are best handled with gloves. In some rare instances, some people do have reactions to the leaves. Definitely keep pets and children. The advantage ot this is that they are deer resistant.
